Once there, the team not only find themselves unable to contact Earth, but their explorations unexpectedly reawaken the Ancients' deadly enemies, The Wraith, who hunger for this new prey. Now with the help of newfound local allies like Teyla Emmagan, the Atlantis Team sets about to uncover their new home's secrets eventheir war of survival against the Wraith begins. An international team of scientists and military personnel discover a Stargate network in the Pegasus Galaxy and come face-to-face with a new, powerful enemy, The Wraith. I've read comments about how bad this spin off is. Are they watching the same seriesI? This is not a carbon copy of SG1, or should it be! The story lines are completely different and the characters are fantastic! I love the Wraith! I look forward every week for this show. I just hope and pray that the Sci-Fi channel doesn't cancel it like they've canceled great sci-fi shows in the past! The super line-up on Firdays with Andromeda, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis and Battle Star gallactica, what more could a sci-fi Junker ask for? If Stargate SG1 ends it's run, this spin-off will take it's place without sacrificing it's quality! When this show originally aired I remember watching a couple of seasons, then let it slip off my watch schedule. Up to a few months ago I couldn't remember why. Thanks to Comet TV, who just rebroadcast the series. I forced myself to sit through the entire 5 seasons and can now answer that question with one name, Rodney McKay.

During the first couple of seasons he was treatedmore of a secondary character. His caustic personality and incessant whining was tolerable when taken in small doses. As the show progressed though, his part expanded into a major cast member. By the time season 4 rolled around it seemed like almost every episode centered on him (so much so I'm surprised they didn't rename the show "The Rodney McKay Hour") killing most desires I had to watch it.

It's a shame, too. The rest of the cast, and most of the story lines, were pretty interesting. I just could have done without the "fingers on a chalkboard" feeling the McKay character brought to the mix.
